Men’s A grade
Wanderers d Marauders 4-3
Wanderers narrowly defeated Marauders in a tight fought last match of the day in front of a packed house of hockey players, netballers and footballers enjoying the party atmosphere at the Ravendale Community Sports Centre.
A hat-trick of cracker goals by Jimmy Stockham resulted in calls to the Wanderers coach to drag him so someone else could have a go.
Two goals down with minutes to go saw Daniel Mitchell score to bring Marauders within one goal but Wanderers held on to win the game.
Panthers d Flinders 4-3
In another close game, Panthers also snuck a win over Flinders with the same scoreline.
Nick Doyle from Panthers was impressive with a strong midfield display and Sam Vanderwal for Flinders attacked all night for Flinders.
Women’s A grade
Flinders d Panthers 3-2
After a goal from a solo run by Bec Simpson within 15 seconds of the start of the game, Panthers were looking for a three digit scoreline, but it was not to be.
Flinders quickly regained their composure through strong midfield play by Nicole Cordon and some great attacking hockey by Hannah Stanley.
There were a couple of stumbles with an impressive faceplant by Ceylena Holloway and a very nice tumble complete with shoulder roll by Cas Coulson.
Cassie Francis played for Panthers while she is doing her prac teaching in Port Lincoln.
Some would have recognised her as the daughter of former players Colin and Barb Francis.
Wanderers d Marauders 7-1
The game between Wanderers and Marauders saw a strong win to Wanderers with five separate goal scorers to emphasise their flexible firepower.
Super goal sneak Kristy Cherini banged in a hat trick among their seven-goal haul.
Marauders had crook chook Emily Stanley out on left wing but she still had the energy to smack a nice goal past the long legs of Ally Smart in goals for Wanderers.
Marauders had plenty of play though Emma Foreman and rising start Ashley Dyer, but the Wanderers defence including Bernie Southam and Samorn Stockham was very difficult to penetrate.
Men’s B grade
Panthers d Flinders 4-2
Panthers had plenty of scoring opportunities in the first half, but they could not hit the side of a barn.
Flinders on the other hand were well organised by Wayne Harvey and ground out two goals to find themselves in a good position at half time.
After giving themselves a good talking to at half time Panthers picked up their game in the second half with strong defensive work by Daniel Mahoney and Rohan Daw and a strong midfield display by Raj Dahliwal.
Flinders still had plenty of run through Dean Morgan who played with the zest of a bloke half his age, and the Patterson twins were as solid as ever, but it was Flinders’ turn to struggle in front of goals and Panthers finished with an excellent penalty stroke taken by Flynn Carr.
Wanderers d Marauders 5-2
Wanderers defeated Marauders comfortably with some fine skills on display by Todd Smart in front of goal including a deft deflection high into the net.
Michael Owens sprinting into attack brought back a few hairy memories, he is still a defender’s nightmare.
Jeff Carr and Wayne Bockman defended stoutly for Marauders but pace and attacking numbers from Marauders in the form of Adam Kobelt and Tim Atkinson with a cameo goal by Ryan Smart saw then run out winners.
Women’s B grade
Panthers d Flinders 3-0
Panthers will no doubt welcome more wet training nights after a few hardy souls braved the conditions last Tuesday night.
With a brace of smashing goals by Steph Whittaker (each a couple of inches inside either post), Panthers kept a clean sheet to run out winners three goals to nil.
Zoe Mundy and Pam Stanley were strong in defence but the Flinders forwards could not get past Lauren Whait in goals for Panthers.
Marauders d Wanderers 1-0
In a very entertaining game, Wanderers were narrowly defeated by Marauders, who were given plenty of penalty corner practice.
Therese Pedlers back-passing in front of goal was a sight to behold and Manda Gordon had no chance trying to convince the umpire that she was trying really hard to hit the ball over the sideline.
Wanderers goalkeeper Janet Bellchambers was heard to remark on more than one occasion that she wanted her players to hit the ball in the other direction.
Marauders were unfazed by these shenanigans with Elisa Fletcher chasing everything and everyone and Kelly Quintel providing excellent rebound attacks from defence.
Fiona Kavanagh was superb in the midfield for Marauders and there were some entertaining contests with Wanderers’ Leonie O’Brien.
Under 16 boys
Wanderers d Marauders 2-1
Wanderers defeated Marauders by one goal in a cracker game, which had players on both sides displaying oodles of talent.
Todd Smart scored twice for Wanderers, and Lincoln Blewit scored Marauders’ goal.
The contests all over the ground between Max Bail and Todd Foreman, Zac Simpson and Doug Ashman, and Todd Smart and Daniel Mitchell are well worth the price of admission.
Flinders d Panthers 4-1
Flinders had a good win over Panthers with a couple of nice goals to Hayley Richards, who was well supported by James Lee and Rowan Perry.
Panthers lacked firepower but for a nice goal by Sam Whittaker.
Under 16 girls
Marauders d Wanderers 4-0
It was the Dyer show in the game between Marauders and Wanderers with two goals each to Kelsy and Ashleigh for Marauders and Wanderers could not buy a goal despite many good attacking moves by Georgia Leahy and Sam Shepherd.
Flinders d Panthers 5-1
Flinders were too strong for Panthers, Hannah Stanley was everywhere, Zoe Mundy and the Richards sisters were in great form and proved too hot to handle for the Panthers’ defence.
Bec Simpson worked hard for Panthers as did Morgan Garrett-Sampson resulting in a nice goal to Jaz Hill.
Under 13 mixed
Wanderers d Marauders 2-1
The Ashleigh Dyer-Zac Simpson contest is always entertaining when Marauders and Wanderers meet, as neither of them wants the other to win the ball off them so it was run spot run all game. Tiff Atkinson had a great game in the midfield for Wanderers as did Luke Carrison for Marauders.
Flinders d Panthers 1-0
A goal by James Lee was enough for Flinders to get over the line against Panthers who worked hard without success on the scoreboard.
Lloyd Carr and Ryan Kennedy impressed for Flinders and Kevin Casanova combined well with Eden Tilley and Jaz Hill for Panthers.
