JUNE 7 and 8 saw six gymnasts from Port Lincoln travel to Adelaide to compete in the 2008 Country Championships with some pleasing results.
Marni Murphy in level 3 division B competed strongly to finish fourth on vault, second uneven bars, first on beam and first on floor to achieve the first overall trophy to become the country champion.
This is the second consecutive year Port Lincoln has produced a country champion at this level.
Level 4 national division A saw four gymnasts compete with an amazing result.
Chloe Meyers and Chelsea Dunn were part of a four-way tie for bronze on vault.
Chelsea gained fourth on uneven bars, Demi Mundy was seventh on floor and Kodi Mundy sixth on beam and eighth place overall.
Cheyenne Donaghey competed Level 5 State division C, achieving a result of second placing on all apparatus and second overall champion.
This team of gymnasts has been training and competing together for the past six months and is already preparing for the Port Pirie regional gymnastics competition on July 20 and 21.
Port Lincoln will be entering 20 boys this year and hope to increase the profile of men’s artistic gymnastics in regional SA and bring home the gold.
Clubs from Barossa, Broken Hill, Whyalla, Millicent, Murraylands, Port Pirie, Port Lincoln, Silver City and Victor Harbor all came together to compete levels 1 to 10 in both women’s and men’s artistic gymnastics in Adelaide.
