Imperials lead from the start

Port Lincoln netball

Souths United lt Imperials 26-58

AS expected this game was always going to be fast and hard.

The first quarter was even with accurate shooting coming from Imperials Stacey Simms and Jemma Stott.

South’s defence, in Natalie Flack and Kylie Fitzgerald, made it hard for Imperials to get the ball into the ring. Imperials had the experience in Siegert to feed well into the ring and Imperials finished the quarter with a five-goal lead.

Souths came out fighting in the second quarter and had two early turnovers, but the strong, tall defence of Megan Butterick and Emma Bommer made it hard for Souths to capitalise.

Tara Stott came on in wing defence and read the ball well, taking some good intercepts before it got to South’s goal ring.

Again accurate shooting from Imperials saw their lead go out to 13 at half time.

Souths made some positional changes and brought Bernadette Barrett on into centre, creating good space down the court and fresh legs for Souths.

Amanda Joraslafsky worked hard and turned the ball over in the Souths defence end but Souths found it hard to find the path into goal ring.

Imperials finished the quarter strongly, with positive moves down the court and good talking from all players to hold a 20-goal lead at three quarter time.

The experience and fitness of a well conditioned Imperials team made it hard for Souths to fight back. They still worked hard and had a good share of the play but just couldn’t compete with the great defence work in the ring with Tara Stott and Megan Butterick.

Imperials finished the game well and ran out 32-goal winners, 58-26.
