 Eagles in a thriller

Eagles in a thriller

17/06/2008 3:33:00 PM
THE Tasman Roosters, after leading by 20 points at the first change, 18 points at half time and 22 points at the last change were over run in the last quarter by a determined Lincoln South outfit who went on win by three points in a thriller.

Tasmans started the game well, dominating possession through Vonow, Davey and James in the midfield, while forwards Campbell and Tonkin were presenting well and proving a handful for the South defence.

Tonkin proved a good target for the Roosters early and finished with five goals.

Souths then matched the intensity of the Roosters in the middle stages of the game but just couldn’t make inroads into the three to four goal deficit.

The Roosters copped a couple of injuries that did their chances of winning no good with Kilsby having shoulder problems and Lamont with a broken jaw, who will be missing six to eight weeks of football.

Jericho, at centre-half-back, continued on his good form and led a defensive unit that eventually got on top, with good support from Theodosiou, Nagel, Jenkins and Petty.

Lincoln South started to get their fair share of the ball through the middle with Wake and Dunn impressive.Lincoln South coach Bryant came off the bench to kick a vital goal late in the last term to put the Eagles within a kick, and when young Stoetzer was awarded a late free in a big pack he kicked the sealer in the dying minutes.

Tasmans got the last centre clearance and the ball ended up in Tonkin’s hands when the siren went, but he was outside 50 and too far out to manage a score.

Tasmans had chances to win the game but inaccuracy in front of goal proved costly in the end as they kicked 4-13 after quarter time. This could be a costly loss in the final wash-up when the final four is decided.

For Lincoln South they now have the monkey off the back and can look forward to upsetting more sides in the future.Port Lincoln
