Port Lincoln football
Lincoln South v Tasman, Saturday, Ravendale, 2.40pm
THE season for the Eagles, as far as making the finals, is on the line this Saturday.
Tasmans, who started with a win over the Eagles and then Bostons and then lost their next three, really need to win this one to kick start their season again.
The Eagles’ Andrew Jericho, who was in great touch in the Mortlock Shield, is their prime mover, and at his top can be a match winner, but they need the Eagles’ under 21 brigade, Dillon Bellinger, Dylan Dunn, Antonie Papazglov, Brett Brown, Anton Story, Kane Hancock, Jay Williams, Nathan McEvoy, and Reece Williams to play to their full potential.
They are as good as group of any young players going around and add the team’s core group of team leaders: Sam and Jamie Kidney, Paul Theodosiou, Michael Bates, Kyron Cocks and then there’s Andrew North, and you have a good combination.
It is hard to work out why they don’t win and the answer is obvious - you have to play four quarters of football.
Their list is such, that if they click, and stay switched on, they can stay in the race for fourth spot.
Tasmans are up and down. They have turned a dream start into a nightmare and this Saturday they have to turn the light on when they wake up and also stay switched on.
Matt James, Craig Reinke, Adam Vonow, Ross Campbell (brilliant in the Mortlock), Brad Cimarosti, Hayden McKinlay, Michael Kilsby, Brett McConnell and Jamie Honner if he plays, are a strong talented group of players, but one has to wonder why they have fallen in a heap to not play to their potential?
The Roosters have to get quick ball up to their key forwards and ideally look for another key forward to let Johan Wagner do what he does best, and that is his ability to lead and demand the ball.
It’s gloves off for both teams in this one, and if both teams have a fair dinkum crack it may well put the nightmares of both camps to bed.
Tip: Tough call but the Roosters have proven they can play four quarters, and South have yet do that.
