Volunteers behind numbering program

3/07/2008 11:29:00 AM
NUMBERS have been popping up on people’s kerbs and driveways around Port Lincoln, but nobody seems to know who puts them there.

It is volunteer members of Neighbourhood Watch committees who have been hard at work, spray painting the yellow and blue house number display using paint supplied by the city council.

Clearly displayed house numbers are vital in helping the ambulance find properties quickly in an emergency.

Bill Siviour, John Bartley and Graham Shepherd have been spray painting the numbers for Neighbourhood Watch Area 290.

They are about two thirds through completing the 1000 homes bordered by Sleaford Terrace, Flinders Highway and Park Terrace.

About seven years ago the men painted the black and white number display, but these had faded and rubbed off.

Neighbourhood Watch Area 290 has regular meetings attended by a police officer who reports on crime and activity in the area so members can alert the public.

Often a guest speaker attends meetings and other group activities include engraving stalls.

The group is looking for new members. For more information or to attend a meeting keep an eye on the Community Corner in the Port Lincoln Times or contact coordinator John Bartley on 8683 0049.
