SEVERAL Eyre Peninsula football and netball teams will be sporting yellow armbands from this weekend in the fight against men’s cancers.

Registered so far in The Cancer Council SA’s Call To Arms event are Marble Range, Boston, Tumby Bay, Cleve, Ports (Arno Bay/Port Neill), Cummins Ramblers, Kimba, Lincoln South, United Yeelanna and Wudinna.

Clubs have selected the date they wear the armbands, with Marble Range choosing to do it this weekend in its clash against Lincoln South.

The Cancer Council spokesman Mark Gibbs said everyday 137 Australian men would hear the words “you have cancer” and Call To Arms was a great way to raise awareness about men’s cancers and raise funds to fight back against the disease.

“Call To Arms gives

sporting clubs of all codes the ability to help save the lives of Australian men facing

cancer,” he said.

“All funds raised will

support The Cancer Council’s lifesaving cancer research, education programs and

support services for people affected by cancer.”

Call To Arms calls on local sporting clubs to wear a

yellow armband and fundraise during a match in June or July.

register, visit the website www.calltoarms.com.au or call 1300 656 585.
